April is Autism Awareness Month. Then I got to thinking, “how can I expect others to be aware if they don’t know what Autism is?”. So instead of merely sharing the fact that it is Autism Awareness Month, I thought I could compile various things that have helped me better understand Autism. I don’t know everything, as my experience is only with my son who has Autism. But I try my best to better understand him and meet him where he’s at.
My goal is to reach people who are just walking into the world of Autism for the first time. Maybe their loved one has shown signs of Autism and want to learn more. OR maybe someone who hasn’t been personally touched by a loved one with Autism but understands the importance of creating a better awareness for the world they live in. A world that is share by children and adults with Autism.
My intentions with this blog are to help bring awareness during April 2015. I can’t say if this will continue to be updated after. Also, I’m not a professional or by any means do I know everything. But I do care. This is by no means meant to be exhaustive or prescriptive and I wouldn’t consider myself a writer. So as you read, remember I’m still learning, but I will do my best to share what I have learned.
